Au pairs are not employed by their host families, they are here as part of a Government recognised Cultural Exchange. They do not receive a wage, they receive pocket money, and the minimum pocket money recommended by our agency is:
Au Pair up to 25 hours - £85 Weekly
Au Pair up to 30 hours - £95 - £110 Weekly
This includes £5 per week towards language classes.
The 5 hours a day may be worked just in the morning, or just in the afternoon, or can be split once over the day. This depends on the needs of each individual family, as well as the hours the au pair needs to go to language school.
Most language schools offer lessons to au pairs 2 or 3 times per week. Normally it is for 2 or 3 hour periods. However different schools offer different times, depending on the location of the school.
An au pair will be expected to help with basic light housework such as ironing, dusting, vacuuming and helping with the children, getting them dressed, playing with them, help at mealtimes and bath times, etc. They will babysit one night a week, and anything over and above that should be liaised between the host family and their au pair.
It is the policy of the agency to send details of suitable au pairs to families the day they contact us, thus assuring them of a speedy service.
